Grip Pointer
1
If you find your glove wears out
here, chances are the club is not correctly positioned
in the palm of your hand.
The butt end of the club probably
covers the wear area. When you swing back and hinge
your
wrists, the club moves. The movement creates friction
which wears out your glove.
|
Grip Pointer 2
If you don't position the club in your hands correctly, you may hold on to the club too
tightly. When this happens, you may lose feel for the
club, especially the club head.
|
Grip Pointer 3
Most golfers with this problem hold
the club with their left hand positioned too far to the
left of the club. With their left hand in this
position,
they find it difficult to hinge their wrists. The
hingeing and unhingeing of your wrists is a major
source
of power in your swing. If you put a lot of effort into
your swing but lack distance, you are probably not
hingeing your wrists.

Grip Pointer
4
This is a common problem. The
most common cause is a poor hold of the
club.
|
Grip Pointer
5
This is another common problem. You
cannot control the ball when you do not have control of
the club. A solid grip will give you control of the
club.
|
Grip Pointer
6
This is a flipping motion, not a
golf swing. The ball will not go very far and this
action puts a lot of stress on your arms and shoulders.
A poor grip is often the cause.
|
Grip Pointer
7
Tension in both your hands and arms
indicates that the club is not being held
correctly.
|
Grip Pointer 8
Your hands control the entire club
including the club head. If your hands are not
positioned correctly in relation to the club you will
struggle to return the club squarely to the ball. The
result - slices, hooks, pushes and pulls.
|
Now compare your grip with
the two grips shown below.
|
|
This is a weak grip.
The golfers'
hands are not positioned correctly in relation to the
club. If this is the way you grip the club, you
probably
grip it too tightly and slice or push many of your
shots. You may also have a short, quick swing. You may
feel that you push the club through the ball rather
than
swing it through and you don't hit the ball very far.
It
is an effort to get distance and you know that another
25 yards on your woods and irons would make a huge
difference to your game.
|
|
This is a strong grip.
The golfers'
hands are not positioned correctly in relation to the
club. If you grip the club this way you probably grip
it
too tightly and pull or hook many of your shots though
you can also hit a push wide to the right. You may have
a lengthy back swing and at times you feel your right
hand overpowers your left. Accuracy, not distance, is
the main problem you face. If you drove the ball in the
fairway and hit you irons with greater accuracy, your
game would improve.
